Recovering from a hike

Hiking is a great way to challenge yourself . There is a particular satisfaction that comes with doing things your body thinks it can’t ( with consent of course) . And I do these things hoping that if I can push myself and get on top of that hill, the other things in my life can bend to my will. Since hiking can leave you quite exhausted here is how you recharge :

1. Drink lots of water and eat
Hiking looks fancy on pinterest but it can be a sweaty muddy activity especially if you hike during the rainy season . Hydrate throughout the hike and even some more afterwards . Add citrus fruits or Himalayan salt to replenish your minerals. Aim for at least 4 litres of water. Can you imagine affording the calories you want? Although exercise downs appetite especially for junk, do eat fiber rich foods and lots of fruits.



2. Stretch
While sore muscles are such a high for me, unsore muscles are even better ( and honestly more comfortable) . Take 15 minutes to do a whole body stretch so as to prevent next day soreness and wobbling . You can also go for a massage to relieve tension and increase blood supply to your struggling muscles.



3. Rest
Take a hot and cold bath. Athletes (a bit grandiose of me) prevent soreness and pain by taking hot and cold water baths. Nothing compares to a fresh feeling after being covered in your own sweat. A good night sleep is guaranteed and very much needed at this point. Take the next day slow and give your body time to recover.

4. At it Again
Hiking along with other sports are a great way to stay active. Hit the gym, take a walk jog or hike again . The benefits are endless.
